1952 Barker Brothers Ltd. Reproduction Sterling Silver English Anointing Spoon
Item Details
A 1952 reproduction of the twelfth century sterling silver anointing spoon that was used in the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, produced by Barker Brothers Ltd. of Birmingham. The spoon has a knopped and spiraled end that leads into a scrolling vine motif handle that terminates in a floral medallion neck. Its neck has a figural dragon’s head that leads to its oval bowl, which is embossed with scrolling acanthus designs. It is marked ‘Sterling England’ along with the Barker Brothers Ltd. hallmark, a Birmingham anchor mark, a lion passant standard mark, a ‘C’ 1952 date letter mark, and a coronation mark. This piece is presented in its original case with a manufacturer’s note, and has an approximate weight of 2.48 ozt.
