Carol J. Mathews Original Abstract Watercolor Painting
Item Details
An original watercolor painting on paper by Contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). The abstract painting features an overall interlocking pattern created from broad curved strokes and teardrop shapes, all rendered in clear, bright hues across the full spectrum. The work is unsigned, and is marked to the verso with a stamp from the artist’s estate. It is presented in a white mat, and is protected by a cardboard backing and a cellophane sleeve. A printed artist statement is attached to the verso of the backing.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows . . . having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind . . . After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
