A collection of journal pages by Contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This collection of journal pages includes four pages; one page includes a landscape drawing in ink and the caption _ . . . first we were here, then . . . this happened_, another page, also with a landscape drawing in ink has the caption, _ . . . and then, this happened… ., the third page is dated January 16 – 06 6am and depicts a Surrealist landscape with crosses, possibly gravestones, at the base of the composition, and the last page, dated 6-9-05, includes an abstracted geometric drawing with the caption still got that mountain to climb at the top of the composition. These four pages are unframed and await your choice of presentation. Each of the journal pages has a stamp from the estate of Carol J. Mathews to the verso.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows, . . .having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind . . . After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
