An original oil painting on canvas by Contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This abstract geometric painting, rendered in bold, flat color, features two intersecting diagonal rays comprised of smaller interlocking geometric shapes. They are surrounded by larger triangular shapes in red, green and black. The work is unsigned, and is marked with the artist’s estate stamp to the verso. The gallery wrapped canvas is presented unframed, ready to hang, and a printed artist statement is attached to the verso.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows . . .having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind. . . After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
