Original Antique Pair of Currier & Ives Lithograph Prints
Item Details
In Plate
A pair of original antique Currier & Ives hand-colored lithograph prints, ‘The Lovers Quarrel’ and ‘The Lovers Reconciliation’. Currier and Ives was a successful printmaking firm started by Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives from 1834 to 1907. The firm produced prints from paintings by artists as black and white lithographs which were then hand colored. The firm often referred to itself as ‘the Grand Central Depot for Cheap and Popular Prints’. This pair of prints feature a couple deep in thought in ‘The Lovers Quarrel’ and then embracing each other in ‘The Lovers Reconciliation’. Both prints list ‘Lith. & Pub. by Currier & Ives.’ to the bottom left, title of the print to the center bottom followed by print numbers (167 and 168, respectively) and ‘152 Nassau St. N.Y.’ to the bottom right. The prints are housed in a thick wooden frame, with center wooden barrier dividing them, and behind glass panels.
