Carol J. Mathews Abstract Watercolor Painting
Item Details
An abstract watercolor painting by Contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). This abstract piece is constructed of a series of repeated curving shapes in brilliant tones covering the full spectrum. The clever use of negative space in this design highlights both the repetition of form and the brilliance of color choice. This painting is presented in a white mat board. The verso of this piece includes a stamp from the artist’s estate and a document with biographical information about the artist.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows, . . .having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind . . . After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
