19.5’ W x 24’ H

An oil painting on board of an impressionistic landscape by well-listed German artist Paul Müller-Kaempff (1861-1941). Exhibiting large loose brushstrokes, this tranquil landscape features a coastal green field with spindly windblown trees in the foreground; to the right is a winding dirt path leading to a forested area in the right background; a glimpse of the calm sea is visible to the distant left underneath the textural cloudy sky that hovers above. The painting is signed ‘P. Müller-Kaempff’ to the lower left. It is presented in a brown gesso wood frame with gilt accents and scrolling foliate motifs in the corners. Handwritten inscriptions are present to the verso, some of which reads the artist’s name. A contact label from Hans Kollhoff is also adhered to the verso.

Known for his landscape paintings, Paul Müller-Kaempff received art training at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, the Academy of Karlsruhe under the tutelage of Gustav Schönleber (1851–1917,) and the Berlin Academy in the studio of Hans Gude (1825–1903). He was a member of the Hamburg Artists Association, and he and his wife were founding members of the Oldenburg Art Society.
