Antique William & Mary Oak Chest, Circa Late 17th Century to Early 18th Century

An antique William & Mary oak chest, late 17th century. The paneled case features a rectangular, molded top above a stack of four graduated and dovetailed, side-hung drawers. The paneled fronts are fitted with brass escutcheons and teardrop pulls while three of the divider rails are applied with half-turned moldings. The chest rises on a molded base ending in bun feet.

- scattered surface wear and imperfections as would be expected, including scratches, scuffs, and small chips; top probably replaced at some point and with some marks/stains and light gaps between boards; interior of case with some repairs/restorations, including later reinforcement strips and blocks as well as one replaced lower backboard; second and fourth drawers missing lateral runners with some others being later; a few boards on underside of case and bun feet are later; some minor, former pest damage (worming); brass hardware is not original; one drawer missing the interior lock mechanism; other possible repairs/restorations.
