Antique South German Beech Fratzenstühle
Item Details
A set of four antique South German beechwood Fratzenstühle. This set of hand crafted and individually different South German Fratzenstühle date from the late 19th century to early 20th century and are in the traditional Bauernmöbel or Farm style. They are inscribed in the Swabian dialect of German on the backs with a saying that goes along with the carved image and carved crest. The chairs rest on four straight tapering octagonal legs set into the supports at an angle, the supports being dovetailed into the solid plank seat and the carved backs being mortised through the seats and leg supports to be locked in place with a removable tenon or pin. There is no apparent maker’s mark.
