Framed Delft Blauw Tiles

Item Details

A pair of framed Delft Blauw tiles. Both tiles used the classic Delft blue color in their decoration. The first in the pairing is from the collection of occupational tiles and bears the words ‘De OrLosiMaaker’, meaning watch or clock maker, the name N. Jon Luyken, who published “The Book of Trades” in 1649 and ‘1649-1712’, the years of Luyken’s birth and death. The second in this pairing features the saying ‘Wie niet in staat is een fourt te maken is tot niets in staat’ which roughly translates to ‘Who is unable to make a mistake.’ The tiles are marked ‘Delft Blauw / Handpainted / Made in Holland/’ to the back.
