19th Century Barrel Washing Machine by Buckeye Churn Co.
Item Details
An absolutely awesome antique wood, hand-crank washing machine made by the Buckeye Churn Company (Sydney, Ohio) in the late 1800s. This barrel-style washing machine appears to be all original. The barrel is wood and has metal reinforcement strips on each end and mid-center. The top handle lifts for placing your dirty clothes into the barrel and then closes securely. The side handle cranks the barrel back and forth over a cast iron element with teeth to grip the piece that moves the barrel back and forth. Marked and some of its original lettering is still visible. This is a great piece and worth the trip to preview.
