Oil Painting on Canvas Board
Signed to Lower Left and to Verso
19.25’ W x 15.25’ H
An oil painting on canvas board titled Mont Morillou Bridge by listed Cincinnati-based artist Tom Bluemlein (b. 1948). This work features a bridge in front of a generalized French townscape, portrayed with smudged pigments, textural impasto, and hazy forms. A prominent church tower is silhouetted against a cloudy gray sky in the background. The painting is signed to the lower left and to the board verso. It is presented in gesso frame with a dark cherry finish and gilt moulded borders. Handwriting to the verso provides the title and indicates that the scene is located in Loire Valley, France.
A contemporary Impressionist, Bluemlein is best known for his plein-air landscapes. Fog, clouds, and other capricious water features are often featured in his work. He seeks to create moody and inviting scenes that invite viewers into a tranquil space. Bluemlein has served as the President of the Cincinnati Art Club and the American Impressionist Society. Active in the Cincinnati, Ohio; Kentucky, and Tennessee areas, the artist spends his time leading workshops and traveling to paint en plein-air.
