An abstract oil painting on canvas of a marine scene by well-listed British Impressionist Kerry Hallam (b. 1937). This windswept scene features a few sailing boats tossed by the waves at sea. The subject matter is highly abstracted, portrayed with vibrant colors, smeared pigments, and large gestural brushstrokes aggressively applied throughout the composition. The painting is signed to the lower left and presented in a gold-tone metal frame.
Admirer of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne, contemporary British-born artist Kerry Hallam is known for his vibrant compositions that reflect the influence of Fauvism and Post-Impressionism. He attended Chesterfield Art College and London’s Central School of Arts and Crafts on a six year scholarship. In 1973, Hallam emigrated to the U.S. where he pursued a short career in music, then dedicated his time to painting. He established a studio in Boston and on Nantucket Island that also served as a gallery. His work has been represented in both private and public collections throughout the world; solo exhibitions of his work have been held in the United States, Europe, and East Asian countries.
