Hmong "Paj Ntaub" Textiles

A group of three “Paj Ntaub” or “flower cloth” textiles from the Hmong culture of people located in Southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar, as well as a significant population in the United States. These handmade textiles feature scrolling, spiral, and geometric forms radiating from the center point in reverse appliqué with embroidered detail. Three of these panels feature the ’elephant’s foot’ pattern in different colorways including indigo, burgundy, light blue, and pink with contrasting stitching that are finished along the edges and lined with cotton backing fabric. The other five pieces have unfinished edges and feature varying patterns that include a flower and stepped diamonds in lighter colorways of gray, peach, and baby blue. These panels are all unframed and unsigned.
Condition
light wear; some have loose threads and unfinished edges with light fraying.
