Circa 1889 Thirty-Nine Star Printed American Parade Flag

An antique relief printed thirty-nine star American parade flag on muslin, dated circa 1889. The thirty-nine star flag was not an official count as North and South Dakota were both inducted into the United States at the same time, taking the official state count directly from thirty-eight to forty. The flag was printed onto a bolt of fabric and cut. It is presented mounted on beige paper backing in a gilt wood frame.
Condition
- to poor; stains and marks throughout; 2" tear to upper center; remnants from another flag visible along upper edge; scratches and abrasions throughout frame.
