A stained glass tableau titled The Seven Stages of Man after an original by Nicola d’Ascenzo (1871-1954), found in the Reading Room of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC. This stained glass piece depicts imagery from the ‘Seven Stages of Man’ speech from William Shakespeare’s play As You Like It. The stages depicted include ‘Infant’, ‘Schoole Boy’, ‘Lover’, ‘Soldier’, ‘Justice’, ‘Pantaloone’, and ‘Old Man’. The imagery is created on the glass via eighteen layers of translucent colored enamels, which are then kiln fired until fused permanently to the cathedral glass. The work is mounted in a hand crafted walnut frame inspired by the original window of the Folger Library. Two D-ring hanging brackets are mounted to the top corners of the frame.
Condition
- minor scratches to frame; surface could be cleaned more thoroughly.
