Antique Victorian Eastlake Walnut Hall Tree
Item Details
An antique American Victorian walnut hall tree, circa 1880. This mirrored hall tree is in the style of English architect and furniture designer Charles Eastlake (1836-1906). It features a prominent architectural pediment with burl walnut veneers and carved and incised details over a rectangular mirror flanked by attached turned spindles fitted with brass finished cast iron hooks. A recessed burl walnut square panel appears below the mirror and above the mottled brown marble top of the glove drawer, featuring knapp or scallop-and-dowel joints (in use 1871-1900), incised lines, and an embossed brass plate and bail pull. The drawer is supported by a carved and incised support and flanked by two umbrella racks with removable brass drip pans set into the rectangular base on turned feet. There is no discernible maker’s mark.
