Rare Antique Dietz 'Beacon Dash Lamp' Hot Blast Lantern
Item Details
Rare Antique Dietz ‘Beacon Dash Lamp’ hot blast Kerosene lantern, circa 1900-1915; with rounded handle, and spring bracket to rear that was used to connect to an automobile dash board; embossed ‘Dietz Beacon Dash Lamp, New York, U.S.A.’ to back.
The R.E. Dietz Company was a pioneer of the early automotive lighting industry, manufacturing hundreds of models since the company began production in 1868. They made the first ‘Hot Blast’ lanterns in 1868; constructing them so that fresh air enters the globe at the base through the openings in the perforated globe plate; then as that air rises, it passes through the side tubes and back down to the air chamber under the burner, directly supplying a blast of heated air to the flame. This is an early ‘energy efficient’ lantern, which burned about 10% longer than’Cold Blast’ lanterns*; a very interesting and rare collectible.
