An oil painting on canvas of a World War One German military officer titled Den Heldentod (‘_The Hero’s Death_’). This painting, illegibly signed and dated ‘38’ to its lower right corner, depicts a mustached young man in a Pickelhaube and green jacket, a peaceful expression on his face. This warm, thoughtfully-rendered portrait is mounted in a wide wooden frame with German text appearing to identify the subject’s name as Eberhard von der Lade to its verso.
