A signed limited edition wood engraving on paper titled Autumn Fruits by listed American/British artist Gertrude Hermes (1901 – 1983), created in 1935. This print features a detailed composition of a dense cluster of forest mushrooms, berries, and flowers. The print is signed, titled, dated in graphite to the lower margin with an edition of 22 out of 30. This print is presented matted and housed in a painted wooden frame under glass.
Celebrated printmaker and sculptor Gertrude Hermes, OBE RA received her formal art training at the Beckenham School of Art and Leon Underwood’s Brook Green School of Painting and Sculpture, among other renowned artists such as Henry Moore, Eileen Agar, and her husband of four years Blair Hughes-Stanton. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, she also featured her work at the Venice International Exhibition in the British Pavilion at the Paris World Fair. In 1971 she became a full Royal Academician at the Royal Academy and was appointed an OBE ten years later. Her work has been collected by numerous institutions including the Tate collection, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Brooklyn Museum, among others.
