"Spode Tower" Copeland Spode Transferware Soup Tureen, Tray and White Ladle

A vintage blue and white transferware soup tureen from Copeland Spode in the Spode’s Tower pattern. The footed soup tureen features a soft gadroon edge that accentuates its eight sides. The lid has a notch for a ladle and is topped with an embossed floral finial knob. The sides have applied handles. The platter has eight sides with the gadroon design and two embossed floral handles. Both pieces have the blue oval back stamp, ‘Copeland Spode’s Tower England’. The ladle has a green backstamp, Copland Spode England’.
The Tower pattern was introduced 1814 and was taken from an 18th century illustration in the book ‘Views of Rome and its Vicinity’ by Merigot. The bridge is titled, The Bridge of Salaro near Rome.
Condition
Consistent with age and use. Some slight crazing and yellowing on the back of the platter. The interior of the tureen has a slight surface crack and some crazing.
Dimensions
The size above refers to the platter. The soup tureen is 12" wide x 9" deep x 10" tall. The ladle is 11" long x 5.00 wide.
