Item Details

By Hand

A 1936 signed limited edition aquatint etching with a la poupée coloring on paper by listed French artist Francis Roth (1883 – 1932), titled Benny on the Leire River in France. The print depicts a small canal and river running parallel to one another near a small French village. In the lower left margin sits a triangle “SZL” stamp; this mark stands for Sidney Z. Lucas, who was an art entrepreneur who founded the Paris Etching Society and commissioned and published large editions of prints such as this one. The print is signed and numbered 320/350 in graphite to the lower corners. It is matted in white with several hand-drawn French lines and is presented behind non-glare glass in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. A certificate of authenticity from Sidney Z. Lucas is attached to the verso.
