Item Details

An antique late Victorian Eastlake walnut mirrored sideboard, circa 1890. This American sideboard features a prominent molded cornice above a shield-shaped, beveled mirror to center with incised chrysanthemum at top and relief-carved acanthus leaves at corners. The center mirror is flanked by two small arched, beveled mirrors, each under a scrolled, foliate carved spandrel and shelf. The cornice and the shelves are supported by by four turned and carved columns decorated variously with urn finials, baluster vases, and turned roundels. The mirrors rest on the shaped walnut top of the sideboard cabinet below. The cabinet features three stacked drawers to center, with the top drawer bowed outward and decorated with relief carved anthemion and acanthus motifs, and a drawer above a cabinet door on the right and to the left. All drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints and embossed brass Eastlake plates and bail pulls, while the doors feature relief-carved panels and brass drop pulls. Incised and reeded stiles separate the sections of the cabinet and continue to ring turned feet. Unmarked.
