A lithograph on laid paper with imagery of mountainside architecture from an earlier drawing by Sir Russell William Flint (Scotland/England; 1880 – 1969). Depicted are multiple buildings built into a mountainside with stairs leading to different levels. Print is signed in plate and in graphite by the artist to the bottom right corner. Copyrighted ‘F & R’ to lower left corner along with blind stamp. Presented mounted between a mat and board.

Born in Edinburgh on April 4th 1880, Russell William Flint was discovered for his talent at an early age. He became a student at the Royal Institution School of Art in Edinburgh and served a six year apprenticeship at a large printing works. Flint decided to move to London to become a medical illustrator at the age of 20 before becoming a freelance artist in 1907. Years later Flint was elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1924, became a full member in 1933 and in 1936 became President of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour. Then in 1947 William Russell Flint was knighted. In 1962 his work was acknowledged by a retrospective exhibition in the Diploma Gallery of the Royal Academy for his baffling skill in depicting the female form.
