Henry Harlow Howe Maritime Oil Paintings on Board "Ship Mary" and "Isabella"

A set of two mid-century oil paintings on board by listed American artist Henry Harlow Howe (1886 – 1966) titled Isabella and Ship Mary. The maritime landscape works depict historic New England vessels including an 1854 ship and 1886 Nantucket whaler, both shown sailing gentle blue ocean waves under cloudy blue skies. The paintings are signed ‘H H Howe’ in paint to the lower right. They are presented without glass in matching gold tone wooden frames with hanging wire mounted to the verso. Both include labels to backing with information about the vessels.
Condition
- minor surface wear, scratching and accretion to frames; items would benefit from cleaning; tears to backing paper.
