19th Century Oil on Canvas Rural Folk Art Painting
Item Details
An original 19th-century folk art oil painting on canvas. The painting depicts a white cow with brown dappled dots standing in the yard of a rural homestead. A wooden barn, a steepled church, a large home, and rows of tall trees surround the lone animal. The entire scene is painted in sepia tones of greens, yellows, and browns. The painting is unsigned. It is presented in a wide wooden frame with gold-tone inner trim and a hanging wire attached to the verso.
Condition
- extensive craquelure and loss across surface of painting. Entire lower margin has been sloppily inpainted. Frame has chipping and denting, particularly to edges, and is separating at corners. Canvas is loose within frame.
