An Indian carved soapstone Shalabhanjika sculpture. This piece presents a woman in a contrapposto pose beside a tree, standing on a pedestal decorated with leaves. The figure is carved in the round and the base and tree are in the half-round. There are no apparent maker’s marks.

- to fair; discoloration throughout due in some areas to irregularities in stone; accretion throughout; chips throughout base with larger chip to lower right; nicks and surface wear throughout; scratches to verso.
