Mixed Media
Tempera, glitter, paper
An original mixed media painting attributed to contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. This abstract composition cut out black silhouettes of a standing figure adhered to background of cross-hatched splatters and drips of neon paint on a black background. The unsigned work is presented against a white background in a clear plexiglass frame.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
