The Old Fire Truck by Kurt Roesch, 1960's

A particularly fine, gouache and watercolor on artist’s paper laid on card, showing a view of an old firetruck in a snowy landscape. Signed lower right, ‘Roesch’ for Kurt Roesch (German-American, 1905-1984), titled ‘Economy Model’ and painted circa 1965. An exceptionally accomplished work with extraordinary attention to detail in all areas by this internationally renowned artist.

Born in Germany at the start of the century, Roesch studied in Berlin at the Academy Art with Karl Hofer, a notable expressionist painter. Roesch was a member of the American Art Congress and the NH Art Association taught at the Sarah Lawrence College in New York. He exhibited widely and with success, including at the MET, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Carnegie, Art Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts Annual (1947, 1950-53), and numerous solo shows in New York City. His works are held in national collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), the MoMA, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, the University of Minnesota and the University of Nebraska.
