An oil painting on canvas of a still life by listed artist Edgar Yeager (American, 1904 – 1997), dated 1929. The work depicts an assortment of vases and bowls on a fabric covered surface. Signed and dated to the lower right corner. Housed in a decorative brown paint and gesso wood frame. To the verso is a gallery label. Accompanied by an exhibition catalog on the artist from the Cincinnati Art Galleries.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
