A pair of limited edition color lithograph prints on deckle edge paper by Canadian artist Emil Weddige (1907-2001). Featured is a print of a figure with east Asian features. A figure wearing a white shirt stands at a table with a piece of paper and writing tool in hand, while three figures emerge from the background. Also included is a depiction of a draughtsman rendered in an interior with architectural plans scattered around the room. Two male figures wearing top hats and coats are rendered conversing in the background. Both works are signed by hand in graphite to the lower right margin. As well as marked with the edition ed/150’ to the lower left margin. All works are presented unmounted and unframed.

Emil Weddige is best known for color lithography and painting. Born in Sandwich, Ontario, Canada to American parents, he began his formal artistic training at the Eastern Michigan University in 1904. Upon graduating, Weddige further pursued his artistic career and moved to New York, refining his technique while continuing his education at the Art Students League, working under the likes of renowned artists like Morris Kantor and Emil Ganso, who played an important role for the artist immersion in lithography. Weddige became a notable instructor at University of Michigan Art Department in 1937. Later, he established his studio in Paris, and in doing so he settled his distinctive, color stone lithographic prints and content for which he became recognized. He is a prominent lithographer with over 100 one-man exhibitions in the United States and Europe. His works are housed within the permanent collections of National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Chicago Art Institute.

Condition

- both papers are worn at edges, both show some scratches, scuff marks and spots of accretion.
