An oil painting on canvas of a multi-masted ship. This painting depicts a ship strung with an American flag and blowing sails gliding across choppy waters, as two additional ships follow deep into the distance beneath a clear, pastel toned sky. The unsigned painting is presented in a gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire and a handwritten inscription, dating this work to circa 19th century, to the verso.
Condition
- fair; canvas is somewhat discolored from accretion; dge wear to canvas; two nails are hammered directly into top and bottom of canvas to attach it to frame; edge wear to frame; a piece of gesso is missing on right side of frame, as well as a chunk of wood from the frame; thread remnants remain from a linen liner that was ripped out of frame.
