A gouache painting on paper coastal landscape by Ottmar Von Fuehrer (Austrian, 1900-1967), c. 1950s. Towering mountainous formations rise above the rich, verdant landscape below with a stretch of blue water to the foreground. Billowing clouds fill the sky. Signed to the lower right in ink. The work remains unmounted and unframed.
Born in Austria, Von Fuehrer studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the University of Vienna. He maintained a long time position at the Carnegie Institute as a staff artist. He completed many countless murals and painted many of the dioramas in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Ottmar also contributed to the Natural History Museum in Vienna and the Florida State Museum in Gainesville, Florida. Over the years, the body of his work was mostly exhibited in Pittsburgh.
