A signed colored pencil drawing on speckled gray paper. The drawing features a portrait of the well known Chief Joseph (Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain), leader of the Nez Perce Tribe of the Pacific Northwest in the latter half of the 19th century. The portrait depicts the chief from the neck up, with a stoic expression on his face. The name of the subject is written to the lower right and the drawing appears to be signed ‘Robe’ next to a small symbol. Presented behind a brown mat, without glass, in a gold tone wood frame with a beige linen liner. A hanging wire is present to the verso.
Condition
- crease to drawing to lower right. Abrasions to mat to upper left. Accretions scattered throughout. Minor wear and stains to frame and liner.
