Photograph of Wild West Performer "Tex" Cooper and 101 Ranch Book

Item Details

A 20th century silver gelatin photograph of Thomas Judge ‘Tex’ Cooper (American, 1876-1951), in full cowboy regalia. The photograph was pulled directly from the original glass negative in the collection of the High Museum, Atlanta, Georgia. Lot also includes the book ‘The 101 Ranch’, Collings & England, 1938.

‘Tex’ Cooper had a lengthy career in the Western arena, first performing with the Miller Brother’s 101 Ranch beginning in the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. He was a noted friend of William ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody (American, 1846-1917), and also toured with his ‘Wild West’ shows following his tenure with the 101 Ranch. Cooper also acted in several Hollywood films toward the latter end of his life, often taking on the character of Buffalo Bill.

This collection was previously offered in a Bonham’s sale of Western Memorabilia (4/4/1995), and that catalog entry is illustrated here.
