US Model 1851 Cadet Musket by Springfield Armory
Item Details
A US Model 1851 cadet musket. Manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1851 for cadets at West Point, VMI, and elsewhere, this weapon features a percussion cap hammer, a flip-up rear sight, and a concave tip to the ramrod to accept a Minié ball. Marked with the words ‘Spring Field 1851’ and the US eagle to the sideplate, and the serial number P-2451 to the underside. This firearm has likely been shortened and altered at some point and is no longer in working condition.
Condition
- rust and tarnish to the metal; residue around the percussion lock; discoloration and some cracks to the wood; evidence of alteration and possible shortening to the stock and barrel; untested, possibly in non-firing condition.
