Signed Artus Van Briggle 1890 Rookwood Pottery Three-Handled Vase
Item Details
An antique Rookwood three-handled vase in Standard glaze, bearing the hand-inscribed signature of Artus Van Briggle. It has a rounded form with three wide and tapered applied, beautifully curved handles at the rim, with applied ochre-colored chrysanthemum flowers on the rim, with an ochre liner glaze. At the base of the pot are noted areas of gold lustre showing under the glaze. The vessel is marked to the underside with the Van Briggle ‘AVB’ and a four-flame Rookwood mark, indicating an 1890 creation date. It is also impress marked with ‘588B’, a ‘W’ for the use of white clay, and a large incised ‘X’. There is an additional illegible incised mark near the ‘AVB’ signature.

- a little dusty and small section of glaze appears to be peeling.
- carbon marks from the kiln stilt are evident on the base, with general wear to the base.
