An antique United States Army National Guard group silver gelatin photograph on thick cardboard stock. This military print presents a large group of soldiers holding a presentation banner in the front that reads: Headquarters Company E Infantry I.N.G. Elgin Ill.’ The soldiers are wearing dress hats and kepi cap. The individuals in the front also have their dress swords at their sides. Upon research, Elgin’s Company E was a National Guard Unit that assisted the police and fire companies in the 1880s and 1890s. They were called to arms batting the LaSalle Coal Strike riot and the Pullman Railroad Strikes of 1894. Based outside of Chicago, the unit also saw action in the Civil and Spanish Americans Wars. This antique military print is housed in a protective sleeve.
Condition
Discoloration, soiling with foxing. Edge and surface wear with soft corners. This print was created on a thick cardboard stock with a blank back side. There is middle top border tear. Wear consistent with age.
