A signed Ivo Saliger (Germany, 1894-1987) hand colored etching, titled ‘Der Arzt’ translated as ‘Doctor Fighting Death’.depicting a brave doctor defending a young female nude from the icy hands of death, personified as the skeleton. The piece, completed in 1920, of an open edition, was inspired by the death of the artist’s sister, by the heroism and compassion shown by her doctors as they attempted to fend off the inevitable. A heroic piece, well respectful of the calling of all medical practitioners. Signed in the lower margin, with the artist’s trademark in the plate at lower left. It is unknown if the artist colored the piece himself.
