Donald Purdy 1961 Oil Painting on Panel

An original 1961 oil painting on panel of women with flowers by well-listed American artist Donald Purdy (Connecticut; born 1924). This colorful piece depicts a pair of women in blue standing in what appears to be a florist’s, their faces turned to examine the flowers before them. This work is signed ‘Purdy’ to both corners, one also dated ‘61,’ and is presented in a gold tone frame with a textile liner and a wire for hanging to its verso.
Purdy’s works are included in the permanent collections of numerous prestigious institutions across the United States, including Chrysler Museum, Virginia; Cincinnati Art Museum; Kansas University, Arkansas; Chase Manhattan Bank, New York; and New Britain Museum, Connecticut, among others.
Condition
- panel is somewhat warped to the left; discoloration to textile liner; light wear to frame finish and verso; paint residue scattered throughout verso.
