Hand-Knotted Sino-Turkmen Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Sino-Turkmen area rug. This wool rug, attributed to Chinese weavers, begins with a large concentric star medallion in sapphire over ivory amid a universal palette of ivory, sapphire, mauve, and black. The medallion is seeded with a small floret, which is enclosed in a rectangular frame of Chinese-style frets. The field is framed by a complex system of borders, most of which contain geometric patterns. These include horizontal panels above and below the field, each featuring a Turkmen-style lattice pattern. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and long ivory warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
