Early 19th Century Unframed Map of New England

Item Details

An antique unframed map titled ‘New England States’, from circa the early 19th century. It can be dated to before 1842, the year of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, which defined the modern border between Maine and Canada. This map shows the larger US claim in northern Maine from before the treaty. The states are hand-tinted different colors. Longitude is notably measured east from Washington rather than west from the Prime Meridian at Greenwich. Note that some amateur drawings appear to the reverse.

Condition

- paper yellowing consistent with age and a few minor stains, but overall quite good considering age.
