A collection of four etchings on paper by listed Canadian artist Amos Sangster (1833-1904), dated 1886-1888. The work titled Chippewa Harbor, after a fire, Canada is signed in plate to the lower left, dated ‘1887’ and numbered 38 in roman numerals to the lower right. The etching titled The Garrison road to the river, Canada is signed in plate to the lower left, dated ‘1886’ and numbered 20 in roman numerals to the lower right. The work titled A relic of the past, Canada Shore is signed in plate, dated ‘1887’ and numbered 39 in roman numerals to the lower margin. The work titled A relic of Front George, Niagara is signed in plate to the lower left, dated ‘1888’ and numbered 47 in roman numerals to the lower left. Title of the piece is inscribed in ink to the upper area of each matting. Works are presented on off-white matting within individual acetate covers.

Amos W. Sangster was a Canadian born illustrator, painter, and inventor, but is most well-known for his etchings. In his early career, Sangster began working on a portfolio of paintings and drawings of Niagara Falls that he later turned into numerous etchings. This portfolio became his life’s work, and is what he is most well-known for today. His work now resides in private collections, public museums, universities, and libraries mostly in New York and Canada.
