An acrylic painting on paper titled Abstract Study/Release & Contraction by Wilson Harding Lawrence, executed in 2004. Kinetic lines, splatters, and drips jostle and fuse together, obscuring the dark ground, applied in prepense strokes and movements. The composition is broken by two bold planes of white that are created by an applied strip of paper. The formless and fluid all over composition is reminiscent of the abstract expressionist paintings of Jackson Pollock. The work is presented under glass with a cast iron frame. Included with the work is a Lawrence’s resume from the gallery of purchase and the original receipt of purchase from Irene and Paul Neal.
Wilson Lawrence received his B.A. from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts in 2006 and his M.F.A from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2010. He is actively working as an artist and Adjunct professor in Mystic CT. Lawrence also work as an Exhibition Preparator for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York City.
