An acrylic painting on canvas on panel abstract composition by New New painter John Gittins. Violet and brown hues of thick textured acrylic fuse and melt together in the center of the composition. They appear upon a ground of flat violet tones. The physical surface of the work is important to Gittins. Expressive shapes and edges breathe life into the work, defined by spatial layering. The work is presented in a box frame.

John received his B.S. at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1965. Further education includes M.A. in Psychology, Clark University (1969), Research Fellow, Clark University (1969-71), Worcester Art Museum School (1974-77), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1977-78). Member of the New New Painters, a group of artists brought together by the first curator of modern and contemporary art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Dr. Kenworth Moffett in 1978.
