Antique Catholic Bible with Decorative Leather Hardcover
Item Details
A circa late 19th century antique Holy Catholic Bible, published by John McDonough of Chicago and Pittsburgh, and approved by James F. Wood, bishop of Philadelphia from 1860-1883. It is illustrated with engravings with tissue paper guards, and bound in an ornate decorative leather hardcover with an embossed border surrounding a central cross design, surrounded by medallions with portraits of the Gospel authors, as well as Jesus, St. Peter, and Mary. It has gilt page edges and metal latches.
Condition
- both boards are detached and the spine veneer is missing. The sewn bindings are intact, although a few pages at the end of the volume are starting to come loose. The interior is clean, with only normal paper yellowing.
