Item Details
Pastel on paper
An original late-19th-century pastel landscape on paper by well-listed American artist William Henry Chandler (1854 – 1928). Chandler is best-known for his expansive landscapes drawn from imagination, inspired heavily by the New York landscape and the Hudson River School of painters. This scene depicts a rural home with two tall haystacks standing in a grassy field alongside a small pond. A glowing orange and yellow sunrise or sunset coats the scene in vivid colors. The drawing is signed in graphite to the lower left. It is presented behind non-glare glass in a wooden frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso.
