Ink Wash

An ink drawing by well listed artist Gerald Harvey Jones (American, b. 1933), titled Ole Mexican Shack, Real Ranch. This sketch on toned paper depicts the titular lodge situated on a sloped hill, which features a brick chimney, wood exterior and pointed roof. It is contained by a dilapidated fence with protruding posts. This composition is composed of frenetic linework reinforced by clustered shading of varying tones. To the lower corners is a handwritten title and artist signature. The drawing is presented under glass beneath layered matting in a stained wooden frame featuring beige washed accents. To the verso is affixed hanging wire and a pocket containing a copy of a letter from the work’s original owner, dated 1971.

- minor wear to frame; sticky putty to verso at top; paper backing torn to verso.
