Alphonse Lafitte a la Poupee Etching and Aquatint of Moored Sailboats
Item Details
By Hand
An a la poupee etching with aquatint by Alphonse Lafitte (French 1872 – 1936) of moored sailboats. It depicts the boats anchored at low tide and a row of houses lining the shore above. The print is signed ‘A. Lafitte’ the lower right and has an indecipherable mark to the lower left. It is mounted under glass with a French lined mat in a narrow gilt finished wood frame. Alphonse Lafitte is a pseudonym used by well-listed French artist Manuel Robbe who started creating etchings such as this one under the Alphonse Lafitte name in 1920 until his death 16 years later. He used this name as an attempt to commercialize his marine work and diverge from his reputation of creating controversial risqué female portraits.
Condition
- to fair; toning and foxing on mat and print; minor wear to the frame.
