A Mottahedeh Vista Alegre cache pot from Portugal. The blue ground pottery piece with a white raised trim features an Italian sun face on one side. This octagonal form item has borders of relief molded white acanthus leaves below the rim and above the base. The leaves and the face have gilt accents, and the rim and base are also gilded. Mottahedeh rivals only Sampson as one of the world’s best known copyists. This ceramic pot is marked to the base ‘Mottahedeh – VA – 1824 – Portugal’.
